Japanese style buns

I made Japanese style buns! The first batch was not as fluffy as I would like, so for the second batch I extended the rising time during proofing.

The buns look "burned" on the top... as I did not use egg wash for this second batch. Would definitely be using it next time, as it adds a nicer touch for the bread.

Notice the bun on the upper left corner? It was an experiment. I filled the dough with marmalade before baking it. It came out like this:

The other normal buns came out pretty good and not sweet. I'll try to use the mixer next time, in the hope that my bread will be softer and fluffier ;)

Grandma's garden

Here's a sneak peak at my 87 year old grandmother's organic garden. She loves her plants and flowers, and spends practically the whole day, everyday gardening... except when it rains, and during late autumn, winter and early spring. Mom helps grandma create compost, from the vegetable and fruit peels in the kitchen, used as a natural fertilizer.

Young pumpkins, salad, tomatoes, cucumber, overlooking neighbors' gardens:

The dahlia was a star in the past summers, as several of our neighbors and  passerby asked if they can cut the flowers from our front yard. We gave away red, orange and mauve colored ones ;)

Customise your Twitter theme, Themeleon

Discover interesting things everyday on the internet! Look at this themeleon (by It helps you change your Twitter background design :) Cool isn't it? Yeah, of course it's free! Else, I wouldn't post it on my blog! By the way, this may sound strange to you (at least it is for me)... it's my third consecutive post about a discovery I've made on a "technology" that may be useful, now or at a later stage. So take these posts as an archive that you may want to refer back in the future, which I'm doing often with this blog. (By no means, am I affiliate to any of these widgets or applications I stumbled upon, used, and in my opinion found them useful enough to share the information with you.) That being said, I've baked up some goodies in the oven, and will be sharing the pictures with you soon, hopefully this weekend ;)

Anyways, here's how my new Twitter page looks:

Got to stop this madness... can go on for hours on end playing around with the different themes and designs.

Schedule your Tweets, CoTweet (updated)

There are several apps out there that let you manage and schedule your tweets. The one I'm using right now is:

It lets you manage up to 5 different tweeter accounts for free, and schedule you tweets. Because it is web based, you won't have to connect to the internet for the scheduled tweets to be sent. Cool! It's simple, easy to use, and works great for organization that have multiple Twitter users. These users would simply log in on separate Cotweet accounts, and can be assigned tasks to respond to Twitter messages.

Here's how it looks like:

RSS feeds reader, Brief

Found a useful application called Brief, a RSS feeds reader that you can download on

It lets you browse through the feeds quickly and is definitely easier to read than the Live Bookmark Toolbar, which only shows the headlines. You can mark as read the topics, or trash or bookmark them.

Here's how it looks:

Customized privacy settings on Facebook

I was having a dilemma between keeping my Facebook account or deleting it. I opt for the former by customizing my privacy settings. Here's how.

First, create a list:(later, you'll see why this step is important)
  • under Home section, select Friends on the left pane
  • click on +Create a List (for e.g. LIST X), and select the people you want to share limited information with

Second,  choose your privacy settings:

  • go to Account, and select Privacy Settings
  • click on Customize Settings (you'll see a list of things you have been sharing)
Finally, you're now ready to select who and what people can see:
  • select an item from the list, and click on Custom.
  • a pop out window "Custom Privacy" will appear that will prompt you to "make the item you chose visible to" a specific category of people, and/or to "hide it from" a specific category of people. Now you can type LIST X.
Continue with the rest of the information items. Good luck!

The Last Airbender (2010)

Despite the harsh and extremely bad reviews about the film The Last Airbender, I did like it! I feel sad that it wasn't well received ; ( 7% on Rotten Tomatoes and 4.3/10 on Imdb!?!

I do not always agree with the reviews. For example, Titanic got 82% on Rotten Tomatoes... sorry for ya' all Titanic fans, but I HATE the movie and I HATE the song, although I do like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, and I have nothing against Celine Dion.

Back to the Last Airbender. The movie made me want to watch the series, and also get Appa, the flying byson. He is a really cute creature, despite his size. It's one of the very few movies that made me rave about a fictional character.

I'm waiting for the sequel.

Brownies Obsession

Brownies have been my other baking obsession for the past months. I've tried out different recipes, and I think I may have gotten the One.

It's not crumbly, yet firm on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. Although I reduced a considerable amount of sugar from the original recipe, it still tastes sweet enough and flavorful enough to be so far a favorite.

I wanted to give my brownies a nice wrap... that's why they were not cut into the conventional square shapes.

Naturally Colored Red Velvet Cupcake

This is my first red velvet cupcake. It`s not red like other red velvet cakes, because food coloring is a no no for me. I substituted the red coloring with natural beetroot juice. So it came out not red at all, and not very chocolate either ;) The best part however, it turned out to be the fluffiest cake I made so far. Despite that I reduced considerable amount of sugar from the original recipe, it came out delicious. Although it tastes great without frosting, next time I`ll make a cream cheese frosting to top it, otherwise the cupcake looks too naked for the eyes.

It came out very clean at the bottom too ;p

Cousin Tree

I was wondering...

How to call my dad's cousin? First cousin once removed
How to call my dad's cousin's daughter? Second cousin

I find it easier to call them auntie and cousin, or their respective names... we're all from the same family tree anyways ;)

Organza box

When I saw this mauve organza box, I couldn't resist. I got to have it!!!

The box now stores flower candles, which were bought many many years ago. I just couldn't get myself to burn them... If I do, I'll make sure they get posted in this blog ;)

Happy customers feedback

Hooray!!! Another happy customer today!!! He used the word "pristine" to describe the item he received :)

Nothing's more rewarding than a good feedback from a happy customer.

Luckily I haven't received any bad feedback yet... and hope that I'll never get one! Muahaha!

Homemade jam wedding favors

This is a great wedding favor idea, a homemade jam, with a lovely label of the bride and groom's initials.

So lovely!!!

The label says: "expiry date: 10 October 2010. refrigerated once opened. consume within one month."

Bento box

I made my second bento! I use it as a healthy snack box, instead of the conventional lunch box. Looks a bit empty though. Will try to fill it up with more colors next time ;)

Medical checkup results

I've completed my medical checkup, and the results were not promising. I should keep an eye on my borderline high level of cholesterol. Yeaps, normal weight people can have high cholesterol too.

For the past 2 years, I've been indulging myself with fast food, soft drinks, fried food, animal meat and fats, sweets, sugar, and have decreased my fruits and vegetable intake considerably. I've stopped exercising for the last 2 years, and have been sleeping at 1-2am almost every night. My friends can't recognize my lifestyle anymore.

Other than food, the body's response to stress is another factor to consider. The lady at the clinic told me to relax.

My mom used to remind me and DH to sleep between 11 pm and 4 am to stay healthy. I used to be ridiculed for sleeping at 10pm, but got a awake up call again today at the clinic that going to bed late (i.e. 12am and later) can be harmful for the body.

Thanks mom for the reminders ;)

Lenovo ThinkPad - Grandma Proof

This funny ad attracted me to Lenovo's laptops... (a must watch!), but the grandma proof one is only for ThinkPad though.
