Light box / light tent photography

I finally made a light box! I went to the camera shop three times, but couldn't get myself to buy the light tent (I'd rather save and spend on camera lens, if needed :). You're allowed to call me cheapskate ;P, but I'd say it's a fun and creative way to reuse what you already have in the house. Halfway through the project, DH offered his helping hands (don't worry, this can be done alone :). I guess he had more fun than me :)

The inspiration came from these homemade light box / light tent:

I started off with a flat Ikea box (not a ready made one). I then measured, cut, and assembled the pieces with staplers and double sided tape.

Time spent: 90 minutes
Monetary cost: $0 so far

Final result of photo shoot, without Photoshop picture enhancement:

I used a CD case... to get nice reflections... see the picture below, without transparent plastic mat:

The picture below is without any artificial lights. I'm thinking of using several light bulbs in my future photo shoots.

Photos for blogs

Image representing Zemanta as depicted in Crun...Image via CrunchBase
Found these links, and before I forget where I saved them I thought it would be a good idea to post them here. These are interesting tools to provide you with related links and pictures or images for your blog content.

Zemanta supports Wordpress, Blogger, Typepad, and the list goes on. I'm using it for this particular post only as a test. The image comes with a  credit.

I feel awkward to use pictures that were not taken by my camera, but apparently, the images are safe to be reused.

I heard a man yelling...

We were in the apartment, and suddenly heard a man yelled "Oi! Oi! Oi!" *silence*, suddenly again "Oi! Oi!" *silence*. We thought it was a robbery case, so we opened the door... nothing. One of our neighbors was watching World Cup 2010.

Live to eat or Eat to live

I never knew that a brief conversation with an ex-colleague, whom I barely knew, can have such big impact on me up until today. The story began when I was in corporate a few years ago and in a different department from that colleague. What brought us to talk a couple of times was when her father was diagnosed with cancer. We shared and spoke on healthy diets and foods to avoid to prevent and even 'cure' cancer. Sadly, a few months later, her father passed away. We saw each other again at the office hallway and what she told me that day struck a cord. She said that the only thing she regretted doing when her dad was still alive was to prevent him from eating the food he wanted to eat.

She was being a good daughter, trying to help her dad change his eating habits... but at the same time, she felt that she did not let him fully enjoy his last moments of life, i.e. eating what he liked the most.

Her statement of regret remains crystal clear in my head, and I've rephrased it to be one of my life's motto: we should live to 'enjoy' eating, and also eat to live 'longer'.

Fender Stratocaster & Marshall Valvestate

I inadvertently described the Fender Stratocaster's color as "sunburn" instead of "sunburst". It now has a new name: sunburn!

Never knew I would mourn over an amplifier, but I did. It's now under the good hands of a musician, and he will take good care of the Marshall Valvestate vs65r, Gold Back series *snif snif*.

Sunburn will feel lonely...

There were repeated TV ads about Bio-Oil. It supposedly helps improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks, uneven skin tone, ageing skin, and dehydrated skin.

Most recently, I bought it to apply on my scars. It did not leave any oily residues. It's still early to tell, but so far so good.

Butter cookies

I baked my first butter cookies... they were crisp outside and soft in the inside. I stored them in an airtight container after they were cooled. A few days later, the cookies were crisp inside out :)

Ironing the clothes

DH: What are you doing?
Me: I'm piling up the washed clothes for ironing this weekend.
DH: Including all my shirts?
Me: Yeah, of course.
DH: Nah, you don't need to... just fold my shirts and they will automatically straighten by themselves (honest look on his face).
Me: ???!!##@%!?

A few weeks ago, I was using TeamViewer (http://www.teamviewer.com/index.aspx)to remotely get access of my mom's computer screen, with her consent, without having to be physically there with her. At the end of the session, we logged off of course.

This morning's conversation with my mom:
Mom: Can you view my new Favorite link about cancer?
*I was puzzled*
Me: What do you mean mom, you sent me an email link?
Mom: No, it's in my Favorite link. I bookmarked a new website link about cancer, you can see it on my computer right?
Me: Mom!!! I can't view what's on your computer anymore, because we've already ended our session!!

DH: Awwwwwe, your mom is so cute!

Life has its ups and downs, no one can forever be lucky, or happy or financially well-off. It's the cycle of life, believe in yourself and in your power of making decisions, believe in moral goodness and honor your words in actions.

Sadly, some people have difficulty accepting reality and do not want to be accountable for their own actions, so they rely on some systems that can miraculously solve their problems. It's pathetic.

Happy Meal

I wanted to be a kid again. So, the other night I went for a drive-through Happy Meal... to get myself a toy! The last time I had a Happy Meal was when I was 7 years old.

Can you believe that the largest toy distributor in the world is not Toys 'R' Us, but McDonald's? There's even a McDonald's Collector's Club where you can get a Happy Meal toy that you missed.
